Processing and Information

All works are made with Finnwool and the addition of a number of more exotic fibres such as silk, camel and alpaca. All the wool comes from local organic sources, bought as raw wool, self washed, dyed and carded, allowing complete quality control of the raw materials. The wool is dyed using protein fibre specific Reactive dyes and local natural materials such as plants and fungi. Some indigo and woad, as well as imported dyestuff such as madder, are also used.

No cutting, sewing or needle-felting techniques are used in the making of the wall felts and rugs. The edges of all felts are turned and then felted as a whole. Prefelts are used in some and these are obviously cut out, as are the cushions and tea cosies.

The "Floor felts", seat covers and cushions are first hand felted then completed in a self made rolling machine. This means the large, thick felts have a durable, hard-wearing finish without appearing "industrial" in nature.
We are able to make felts up to three metres wide.

Comission for Finnish Building Industries Headquarters, Helsinki.

Commissions are undertaken and any combination of colours or design can be incorporated in the work. Please contact us using the "e-mail" form for specific information, more products and design possibilities. As we have no stock there is on average a six week waiting period for larger felts and possibly longer for very big works.
